Our Lady of the Rosary is a special title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus. The story goes back to the year 1571 when there was a big battle on the sea near Greece.
- The Ottomans: Christian sailors were fighting against a powerful group of people called the Ottomans. The Christians were worried because the Ottoman ships were bigger and stronger.
- The Rosary: Before the battle, the Pope asked everyone to pray the Rosary. The Rosary is a special prayer that helps people think about different parts of Jesus’ life and Mary’s life, too. People prayed to Mary to ask for her help.
- Help in the Battle: During the battle, something amazing happened. Even though the Christians were smaller in number, they won! This victory was seen as a miracle from Mary because people believed she helped them win the battle.
- Feast Day: To celebrate this victory and give thanks to Mary, the Church started celebrating October 7th as the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. People around the world continue to pray the Rosary to remember this special event and ask for Mary’s help in their own lives.
This story helps people understand the importance of prayer and how Mary is seen as a helper and protector in the Catholic faith.
