St. Matthew Our Patron Saint

St. Matthew was one of Jesus’ twelve apostles and is also known as Levi.

  1. Tax Collector: Before following Jesus, he worked as a tax collector, which many people didn’t like because tax collectors often took more money than they were supposed to.
  2. Following Jesus: But when Jesus saw Matthew at his work, he called him to follow Him, and Matthew immediately left his job to become one of Jesus’ closest friends.
  3. Gospel: Matthew is famous for writing the first book of the New Testament in the Bible, known as the Gospel of Matthew. This book tells the story of Jesus’ life, His teachings, and His miracles. Through his Gospel, Matthew helps us learn about Jesus and His love for all people.
  4. Feast Day: His feast day is celebrated on September 21.

St. Matthew’s life shows us that no matter what our past is like, we can always choose to follow Jesus and do good things.
