St. Teresa of Avila, whose full name was Teresa de Cepeda y Ahumada, lived in Spain during the 16th century. 

  1. Childhood: She was born on March 28, 1515, in a town called Ávila. Teresa grew up in a loving family, and even as a child, she showed a strong devotion to God.
  2. Becoming a Nun: As she got older, Teresa became a nun and joined the Carmelite order. She was very serious about her faith and wanted to live a life completely dedicated to God. Teresa believed in the importance of prayer and wrote many books about spirituality and the importance of having a personal relationship with God.
  3. Reform Carmelite Order: One of the most important things St. Teresa did was to reform the Carmelite order. She wanted to bring back the simplicity and dedication to prayer that she believed had been lost over time. With the help of others(St. John of the Cross), she founded new convents that followed stricter rules of prayer and simplicity.
  4. Spain Travels: St. Teresa was known for her wisdom and kindness. She traveled around Spain to establish these new convents and to teach others about the importance of prayer. Many people admired her and sought her advice on how to grow closer to God.
  5. Declared a Saint: St. Teresa of Avila was a strong and determined woman who worked hard to make the world a better place through her faith and teachings. She passed away on October 4, 1582, and was later declared a saint by the Catholic Church. 
  6. Feast Day: St. Teresa of Avila’s Feast Day is October 15.

Today, she is remembered for her writings, her reforms within the Carmelite order, and her devotion to God.
